Our Portugal holidays

From London to Portugal, Porto
We flew from London to Porto with easyJet ( www.easyjet.com). The journey took us approximately 2 hours and we paid around £220 (return flight, 2 persons).

How to travel from the Porto Airport to the Porto city centre
Francisco Sa Carneiro Airport (Porto Airport in short) is well served by transport network. We recommend the metro to get to the city centre. Tickets can be bought from the ticket machines at the airport (there was someone from the tourist office advising us what ticket should we buy... we liked that).
We took metro, line E, heading to the centre and changing at Trindade station for line D. We get off at Aliados station, close to our hotel.

Accommodation in Porto
We stayed at Hotel Pão de Açúcar (address: Rua do Almada 262, 4050-032 Porto; website: www.residencialpaodeacucar.com). It is situated close to the historic centre and 2 minutes from Aliados underground station. We managed to get a good early booking discount using www.venere.com. Rooms are very comfortable, continental breakfast was tasty and there was internet connection too. We paid €60 for one night (per room).

Programme of the day
As we arrived to Porto to our hotel late (at about 10pm), the only thing we could do was a late dinner and an evening walk in the historic Porto. We walked along the river Douro, admired illuminated bridge Ponte Dom Luis and historic „Ribeira“ houses (the houses that line the riverside). We also took the Porto Funicular ( www.metrodoporto.pt/PageGen.aspx?WMCM_PaginaId=10035) with great views over the city at night.
It seemed that people don´t sleep in Porto. We came back to our hotel after midnight but nearly half of city was still dancing, singing and drinking on the streets :) It was a great start to our Portugal holidays.
