10 DAYS IN NORTH PORTUGAL (part 3/8)

DAY 3 - Our summer cottage in Covas & Caminha village & Our Portugal photos

Our accommodation in Portugal
This was the first day in our beautiful holiday cottage (traditional stone-built barn) in a small hilly village Covas (Costa Verde).
If you are looking for a romantic peaceful place this barn is what you are looking for. The beaches of the Costa Verde are some 25 mins away by car, picturesque villages and towns are everywhere, the Peneda-Gerês National Park is about 1 hour away by car. Or you can just relax in the barn, have a BBQ eating great local fish and enjoy products from local vineyards.
The barn is run by Siân and Steve who live in the second house and gave us plenty of useful tips what to do in Viana do Castelo region, what local restaurants should we try, what is the best local beach and much more. We felt in love with their barn.
The barn had all the utilities you may need for a week. Check the barn website here: www.ownersdirect.co.uk/portugal/p4016.htm and here retreatinminho.wordpress.com.
We paid £235 for a week.

You can also hire mountain bikes from Siân and Steve. We did two trips on bikes... the first time we biked as far as to Spain! :) We strongly recommend a bike trip, it made our stay here very very special. Local country-side is at its best from the bike rather than from a car. Believe us :)

Programme of the day
This morning it was mainly about discovering of our barn, the local village (Covas), surrounding vineyards and peaceful agricultural country-side in the area.
In the afternoon we visited small coastal village Caminha ( en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Caminha). Its highlights: sightseeing, beach activities, Portuguese egg tart pastry (it´s great). Caminha is about 30mins away from the barn by car.
