DAY 8 & 9 - Bike trip to Paredes de Coura & Viana do Castelo

DAY 8 - Bike trip to Paredes de Coura

Programme of the day
Today it was our second bike trip. It was as hot as when we did the first one but what would you expect :) … it was late hot summer in Portugal.
In the barn we found a small travel guide and we used it as an inspiration for our trip. We decided to bike to a small town Paredes de Coura and back. It was 38 km / 23 mi. in total; mostly on quiet roads; along the river Coura. On our way to Paredes de Coura we biked on the right bank of the river via village Ferreira and then back home on the left bank via villages Rubiaes and Coura, back to barn in Covas.
The route offers variety of great views from the surrounding hills, lovely sweet grapes everywhere, beautiful picturesque villages and churches, ice-cream in Paredes de Coura, swimming in the river Coura (relaxing of our tired feet in its cold water was wonderful), rural North Portugal countryside and much more... simply great day.

In the evening we tried one of the restaurants in Covas (it´s called Fontela and it has a garden. Siân and Steve will let you know where it is exactly). Again great portions, very tasty and affordable prices.

DAY 9 - Relax, beach activities and Viana do Castelo

Programme of the day
This was our last day in the barn. After the breakfast in the garden and a bit of cleaning we said good-bye to Siân and Steve and their beautiful barn.
We then spent most of the day on the beach close to Afife village, relaxing, swimming and eating :).

Our flight was on Sunday so we spent one extra night in the hotel in Viana do Castelo that we booked during the week. Our room was very clean, continental breakfast was also good. Hotel details: Residencial Calatrava, address: Rua Manuel Fiuza, no 157, 4900-458 Viana do Castelo. It´s 5mins walking from the historic centre.

We had a dinner in one of the restaurants in Rue Prior do Crato street (in the city centre). They are all very good; just pick one of them, you won´t be disappointed.
